The Steely Stare
- A close up of the steely stare of the Bald Eagle.
This magnificent bird is a rescued bird located in the World Bird Sanctuary in south St. Louis County.
The scientific name, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, means “white-headed sea eagle” in Latin. The term Bald Eagle may have come from the French which use the term Bald for White Head.
This majestic bird reminds me of the freedoms and opportunities we are afforded in our great country.
The fierce look of concentration reminds me that I was able to come from a youth of abject poverty to an adulthood of relative contentment and comfort. To me he is the symbol of the opportunity we are all provided if we work hard and try to succeed.*
