American Bald Eagle
The American Bald Eagle is the national bird symbol of the United States.
This magnificent bird is in the World Bird Sanctuary located in Lone Elk Park in south St. Louis county. The eagle has been rescued after being hurt and lives in an open top cage.
The scientific name, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, means “white-headed sea eagle” in Latin. The term Bald Eagle may have come from the French which use the term Bald for White Head.
